Seaworld Makes Tiny Custom “Wet Suit” For Adorable Penguin Losing Its Feathers.

Meet WonderTwin. WonderTwin is an adorable Adelie penguin at SeaWorld Orlando who was recently having a bit of a crisis… she was losing her feathers! Besides the embarrassment that  comes with being naked, this was an issue for WonderTwin because she couldn’t regulate her temperature.

Just like in the story of this kitten wearing a tube sock sweater and this hamster who got a hand-knit coat, little WonderTwin needed some help staying warm. Luckily, SeaWorld has on-staff costume designers.

While these wardrobers normally are crafting for human performers, they were willing and ready to step up to the task of  dressing little WonderTwin!

Unlike the previously mentioned kitten and hamster, a sweater just won’t do for Adelie, so SeaWorld costumers created a miniature, custom wetsuit.

In the video below, a SeaWrold staffer explains that feather loss isn’t unusual, and it happens in the wild, but “it can be so detrimental.” WonderTwin’s new wetsuit is designed to mimic a penguin’s coat of feathers.

“She can wear it to keep her warm.” says costumer Marie Berreto, “[It’s] very nice!” As she tries her new wetsuit on, WonderTwin looks like she agrees!
