Ashlyn, is a twenty-four-year-old occupational therapist for underprivaleged kids with a huge heart. Ellen heard about her incredible efforts to help children and invited Ashlyn and her husband to attend the Ellen show as audience members.

But they had no idea that Ellen secretly planned to have them on as special guests to share her story and give her a few awesome surprises.

Ashlyn has figured out the secret to enriching the lives of her students and is actively living it out. “To give is better than to receive.” And she definitely gives.

Ashlyn travels thirty minutes every day to work at one of America’s most economically disadvantaged counties. She decided to make a lower salary because of the joy she finds in helping students with special needs.

Brantley County, Georgia’s students don’t have the luxuries many school districts currently have to equip students so Ellen decided to help.

Ellen asked Ashlyn what the best and most challenging parts of her jobs are. The best part of my job would have to be helping these kids and putting a smile on their face. Knowing that I’m helping – making a difference. That is the most amazing thing.

“The best part of my job would have to be helping these kids and putting a smile on their face. Knowing that I’m helping – making a difference,” the occupational therapist said. “That is the most amazing thing.”

“The hardest part would have to be taking the job home with me,” she said.

Ashlyn not only is taking a reduced salary by working in the poverty-stricken school district, she gives back 10% of her income to help provide additional assistance for things the kids may need.

She said communication and speech devices are desperately needed for the special needs students so she brings her own iPad with her to help the kids with the latest technology.

That’s when Ellen gave her guest Ashlyn an incredible unexpected surprise. Now everyone knows Ellen loves giving surprises. She has given a deserving single mother her dream car, and a hero who saved 20 children on a bus $20,000. But this time she had something even more unique in mind.

She had five iPads brought out. Ashlyn was brought to tears by her generosity… but that wasn’t the end of the gift.

Ellen told her to swipe left on each iPad and by the end Ashlyn’s school district was given $50,000 by Shutterfly!

The world needs more Ashlyns who know true joy comes from giving. We are so glad she will be able to provide even more for her wonderful students.
