She Holds Her Little Girl Eye-To-Eye, But The Reason Why Is Heart-Wrenching

Nicolly sees mom

“The only word that can be used to describe the feeling is ‘God.’ My daughter is free now.”

2-yr-old Nicolly Pereira was born with a rare condition that caused fluid to build up under her eyes. The illness left her totally blind. According to Alana Grajewski, director of the pediatric glaucoma center at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, the average eye pressure for children ranges from 10-20. Prior to surgery, Nicolly was at 50.

Unable to find treatment in their rural home in Brazil, Nicolly’s mom Daiana took to Facebook with an urgent plea for help. Thousands shared Daiana’s crowdfunding post, raising an astonishing $17,000 in just a few days time. The funds were used to provide airfare for the toddler and her mother to travel to the US where the medical care she needed was available.

After a three hour surgery, Nicolly’s sight was restored. Her eye pressure was all the way down to 12.

In an interview with the Miami Herald, Dainana had this to say about the miraculous surgery: “My daughter is free now. She now shines more than before. She has now become a reference for people who didn’t believe in miracles.”
