“My Kid Is Done With Homework.” Mom Sends Bold Email To Child’s School With Powerful Explanation.

Having to do homework after school has become such a staple of the American kid’s life, many families do not even question the amount that gets sent home every day. But young students are receiving so much homework, there is hardly time for anything else in their day.

Is homework really still necessary when it begins to cut into family bonding experiences like game nights, trips to the park, dinner time, and resting on the weekend? One American mother living in Canada has had enough, and she decided that her daughter was not going to have any more homework ever again.

Bunmi Laditan’s 10-year-old daughter, Maya, was coming home from school at 4:30pm everyday only to have to complete another 2-3 hours of homework. She was having chest pains and waking up in the middle of the night filled with stress over her homework. Bunmi knew she had to stand up for Maya, and so she decided that her home would now be a homework-free zone.

She wrote an email to her daughter’s school that night and politely put, “Maya will be drastically reducing the amount of homework she does this year.” Truthfully, Bunmi had decided that Maya was not going to be completing anymore homework. After she wrote the email she decided to write a post on Facebook that has since gone viral. Keep reading to see how Bunmi took her stand and why.

In a follow-up comment on her post, Bunmi said that she is not blaming any of Maya’s teachers for the intense workload. She knows that Maya’s teachers are only doing what they have to do per their instructions.

“This system just isn’t working for my family or my child,” Bunmi wrote in her comment. “I can’t watch her unravel anymore and be filled with so much stress at age 10.”

What do you think of her decision?
