Parents sacrifice a lot for their children – from putting the money they set aside for a new car or boat toward a college fund or working two or three jobs to cover extracurricular expenses. But hearts around the world melted earlier this summer when people saw what a father was willing to give up for his daughter.

Martin Gregory Lambert, 47, walked out onto the “Britain’s Got Talent” stage with his pigtailed, 10-year-old daughter Faye, and performed an operatic duet of “The Prayer,” which Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli famously covered in 1998. The father-daughter pair wowed everyone, but then the judges spoke up.

The duet was an incredible success and the audience rose to their feet, wildly applauding.

“On paper, you might’ve thought, ‘Oh, this little 10-year-old girl and her father singing opera together, it might not work,’ but it was absolutely lovely,” David Williams gushed enthusiastically from the judge’s panel.

Another judge called them “beautiful” together, but when it came to Simon, he seemed to have a different take: “Faye, you started off the better, Martin, you were good on the first chorus.”

That’s when Faye’s face fell. She clearly didn’t like where this seemed to be heading.

“So I’m slightly confused here,” Simon continued, “because I don’t know if it’s the right thing or the wrong thing that you two are still singing together.”

A stunned silence followed for several seconds. The other judges, it appeared, couldn’t believe their ears.

Then, from Faye’s ever-devoted and loving dad: “If you’ll put her through, I’ll go.”
