When Kyle Maynard was just a baby, a congenital birth defect left him a quadruple amputee. But his disability never slowed him down. The now 25-year-old has enjoyed living a life full of the things he loves. Maynard plays football and practices Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, always looking for the next challenge to push himself to new heights.

In this case, the euphemism above was meant to be literal… Maynard just became the first mountain climber to summit Kilimanjaro without the use of prosthetic legs. “This is something I’ve wanted to do for years, just because of the level of the challenge. The harder something is, the better the experience tends to be on the other end once you get through it,” Maynard said just before the climb.

During the 19 hour ascent, Maynard used a bear crawl technique that kept his nose to the ground for 95% of the journey. Though the young man couldn’t enjoy the climb itself like his companions, but once at the top his elation was overwhelming.

Since his Kilimanjaro summit, Maynard set his sights on Mt. Aconcagua. At 22,840 ft. it stands as the highest mountain in South America. Once again, this amazing man triumphed over all the odds. Check out his amazing story in the video below!
