Keith Smith has been on one of the hardest journies of his life recently.

Traveling from coast to coast and all 50 states, Keith has lofty goals to honor his late wife. But when he reached Maine, he suddenly found himself without a means of continuing on. He was almost out of food, ran out of money, and his car had a flat, so the Missouri resident parked himself at a small town Walmart and prayed for the kindness of strangers.

Mainers did not disappoint.

In late August, Paige Bisson posted on Facebook that she’d encountered Keith and his dog, Zoey. The man had explained that his wife, Kay, had unexpectedly passed away last year, and he was on a cross-country trip to spread her ashes at some of the sites the couple had hoped to visit.

But Keith and his dog became stranded in the Waterville Walmart parking lot for several days – he had two flat tires, both his car and phone batteries were dead, and he was nearly out of food. Paige bought Keith some cookies, bottles of water, and a gift card, then posted his story in hopes that she could rally some more help for the stranded duo.

And it worked!

The next day, Devon McEwen, mechanic and co-owner of a local auto repair shop, dropped by to see what he could do for the traveling pair.

“I want to see him complete his journey, for not just him, but his wife that’s looking down on him,” Devon said.

Not only did he top off the van’s tank and change the oil. He went above and beyond for a complete stranger in need, charging the battery, donating three new tires, and then set Keith up with some toiletries and even provided some traveling money!

Share to spread thanks for the incredible generosity and goodwill these residents showed to a grieving husband. He just needed a little help – and got much more than he ever could’ve expected!
