We love shows like X Factor and America’s Got Talent for a lot of reasons. We love seeing the goofy and original auditions, we love witnessing incredible talented people getting discovered… but most of all, we love hearing the heartwarming stories behind the auditions. You have to be pretty brave to stand up in front of all those people are share your talent; oftentimes contestants are motivated by meaningful experiences.

Remember the X Factor contestant who sang an original song written to his late little brother? How about the contestant who sang in memory of his late wife, the one person who always encouraged him to go for his dreams? Now we’re– once again– seeing an emotional audition. This time it’s on America’s Got Talent, and it’s about the relationship between an aspiring musician and his father.

Justin Rhodes, age 23, has always dreamed of being a musician. While his parents were proud of his skills, they didn’t support the idea of him pursuing it professionally.

Justin moved away to go for his dream anyway, but he lost sight of his purpose somewhere along the way, falling into drugs and alcohol.

“My dad is a man of few words,” said Justin, “but I could tell that I disappointed him, as his only son.”

Justin said he felt worthless.

Years went by without his dad hearing him sing… until he came to Justin’s America’s Got Talent audition.

“This competition isn’t just about me succeeding,” said Justin backstage, “it’s about proving to my dad that I am worth something, and this is what I’m meant to do.”

The moment Justin’s dad hears his sons voice will bring tears to your eyes!
