With Hurricane Irma heading their way, officials at Georgia Southern University canceled classes last week to allow students time to evacuate. And that’s precisely what sophomore Jessica Lewis planned to do, but she had one last class to attend before making the long journey north. And she could hit the road even sooner if her political science professor would just make one little, teensy weensy accommodation.
Instead of heading back home after class to get her dog, Luna, Jessica asked permission to bring Luna with her to class.
“… I thought that you might actually be a cool enough professor to say yes, and so I figured it was worth a shot,” she wrote in an email to Dr. Joshua Kennedy just a couple hours before class. “Can I bring my dog to class today? … I promise she’ll be good and only the teeniest bit disruptive. I’ve attached several pictures of her below to help convince you with her cuteness.”
Flattery never hurts. Throw in a smiley face and how could he say no?
“Did you think calling me ‘cool’ would get me to say yes? Because it won’t work,” he began in his response email.
But obviously, he was just messing with her.
“What will work is that SHE’S OBVIOUSLY A GOOD GIRL SO OF COURSE YOU CAN BRING HER.”
“I honestly did not think he would allow me to bring her,” the thankful student said later.
And not only did he allow Luna, he even let her stand at the front of the class during the lecture. What a good dog.
Needless to say, it was a win-win-win solution. Jessica got an early start to her trip, Luna made a whole slew of new friends, and the students got a kick out of having a four-legged, one-time classmate!
