A father-daughter dance is a special occasion, meant to celebrate the precious connection between a dad and his little girl. For 14-year-old Jasmine Vega, it meant missing her own father that much more.

You see, while the teen currently lives in Pennsylvania, her dad, U.S. Army Warrant Officer Wally Vega, was stationed all the way in Texas. Despite this, Jasmine decided to attend the dance anyway, inviting her uncle in place of her father.

But what Jasmine didn’t know is that this night would become the most special one of her young life.

The daddy-daughter dance at Archbishop John Carroll High School took place on November 10, meaning it fell on Veteran’s Day weekend. The event and the timing couldn’t have been more poignant for Jasmine. Knowing this, her family and school worked together to make a special arrangement.

In the picture below, is her father, Wally.

And in this picture is Jasmine’s stunned reaction when she realizes that her dad is really there.
