If only we all had even half of these girls’ tenacity, perseverance and grit!
At a recent National Cheerleaders Association competition, the Raleigh, N.C.-based Cheer Extreme Cougars were at the top of their game and filled with confidence. Powering through their routine, they slid, backflipped and performed mid-air twists and turns with precision.

And then, the unthinkable happened. The music stopped.

Wait, what? We’ve barely started — there’s still two minutes left in the routine. Should we stop? Wait for someone to fix the sound system?
Whatever thoughts were flying through their minds at that point — 33 seconds into the routine, to be exact — they were immediately drowned out by a rallying call from the audience.
“1, 3, 5, 7 … 1, 3, 5, 7 … 1, 3, 5, 7! … 1, 3, 5, 7!!!â€
Without hesitation, the Cougars picked up the “cheer code” themselves and charged forward, appearing to feed off the challenge of this unique performance but mainly listening to entire arena boom as the audience cheered them on.

They moved through the pyramid without skipping a beat. As if they were performing to their music, top girls imagined the music, mouthing lyrics with bright eyes. They held their chins high, while base groups fiercely worked together. At the top of the pyramid, the coaches’ area roared with excitement.
But the show wasn’t over yet. Having just presented a truly impressive routine, the all-stars broke out to the final dance formation, exploding with energy. The crowd clapped on every count, rooting the athletes on to the very end.
