Betty Meredith has spent more than seven decades with her husband Ken and wasn’t about to let anything come between them – not even COVID-19.
Recently, circumstances beyond the U.K. couple’s control forced them apart for five long weeks. But as they say, “Love always finds a way.”
Betty has been married to Ken for 71 happy years. So when her 96-year-old partner moved into Bourn View Care Home, she had a hard time coping with the distance, especially when COVID-19 restrictions prevented her from visiting him at all.
The feeling was mutual for Ken, so after more than a month of not seeing each other, the 91-year-old packed her bags and moved in too!
For two weeks, Ken had no idea that his wife was in the same building. But once her quarantine period was over, she arranged a surprise reunion and romantic dinner for him with some help from the facility’s staff!
“There was not one dry eye as the staff cheered and celebrated the wonderful couple’s reunion,” Bourn View wrote later.
But the best was yet to come! Ken was under the impression that Betty was just visiting, so he asked her to take him home. That’s when she finally revealed she was there to stay! Her sweet husband was so happy that he broke down!
It gets even better! On top of arranging this sweet surprise, staff at the care home made a scrapbook for the Merediths!
It’s filled with pictures of their reunion so they can look back on this chapter of their love story whenever they want.
