Of the big cat family, only tigers and jaguars really enjoy and are adept at swimming. For two cubs at the Australia Zoo, Spot and Stripe, it’s time for their first swimming lesson.
Using a technique of attaching a ball of cloth to a stick, zookeeper Giles entices the two young ones into the water. While Stripe is a bit hesitant, his brother Spot goes right for it and proves that tigers really are powerful swimmers.
But back to Stripe… It seemed as though no props were working to nudge him into the water. Then Giles came up with the cutest solution: A piggy back ride! From there he pretty much emulates how a parent would treat their child in the water. It’s fantastic!
