Army Wife Annoyed At Husband’s Mess, Then Noticed The Soles of His Boots.

It all started when Deirdre Sanford was cleaning up after her husband’s “honey I’m home” mess, yet again. The army man had left his boots in the middle of the floor, but after a moment of annoyance his wife noticed the soles of his shoes.

The brand new training boots were used to the point a hole had worn through the sole. Sanford realized in that moment how hard her husband worked every day for the family, and took to facebook with the picture and caption below.

Posted to her wall, this is what she had to say:

“Ladies, I see a lot of y’all complaining how your husband doesn’t help clean the house, pick up after himself, or even want to go anywhere when he gets home after work. He comes home complaining he’s tired from today’s work and becomes a couch Potato who turns on the TV and plays video games until it’s almost bed time. I think some of us underestimate how much they go through. I was one of those women.

Until today when I again was picking up after my husband’s mess becoming frustrated, I picked up his boots he just bought 6 months ago. He doesn’t wear these boots everyday either. He rotates his boots throughout the week. I looked at the bottom of them to see if he had clumps of mud underneath them and I saw this. The soles of my husband’s 6 month old expensive ROCKY boots have been worn all the way down to the point there’s a hole in them. I almost cried. Not because he ruined them…but because it took me this long to realize what he always told me when I would yell at him for not doing anything around the house..”You don’t understand what I have to go through every single day, how hard I really work, I just wanna come home and relax with the kids.”

The point I’m trying to get across is appreciate your husbands more. I know they make messes, and sometimes it is unacceptable. But they do so much for us. They provide for our family, they protect us, and the sole reason we have freedom. Our husband’s do appreciate what we do.

They may not show it all the time, but they appreciate that we take care of our children, they appreciate the clean house, clean folded clothes, the food you cook for them, the uniforms you put out for them last night so they can sleep the extra 10 mins before getting out of bed at 5am to go to work. You are their rock, and they are yours. So next time you wanna yell at your husband because he left his PT’s in the hallway, go look at the bottom of his boots.
-Deirdre A. Sanford

The realization hit Sanford like a freight train. All the long hours her husband spent working  to support his family and years spent overseas finally became a reality… and she couldn’t have been more grateful.

Here’s the Takeaway: It can be easy to forget how hard your loved ones work when small annoyances become distracting. Choose your battles wisely and know that a moment of gratitude will mean the world to the ones you care about.
