Johnnie Hodges, Sr. is a World War II veteran and devoted husband. Johnnie and his wife Flora spent 60 wonderful years together when time finally took it’s toll.

When Flora was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Johnnie decided to put every part of life, including his mortgage payments, on hold to make sure Fiona recieved the best medical care available.

After several tough years, his beloved Flora passed away. Just a few months later, Johnnie discovered he’d defaulted on a bank loan for the home they’d lived in their entire married life.

Johnnie fought the bank for a year, but he was told he’d be evicted and had no choice but to vacate.

Johnnie’s story went viral when he refused to leave his home on the day of eviction. When officers could not convince him to leave on his own, they were forced to strap the Vietnam Vet to a stretcher and wheel him out of the house.

Donations poured into the account and quickly surpassed the goal of $50,000. Four months later, there was a $100,000 check with Johnnie’s name on it.

Greg Elwood said, “I have a tremendous amount of respect for the greatest generation and just felt really compelled to help out a veteran who had just been evicted from his home.”
